It’s Official: River Sleepers and Other Stories Releases August 11, 2025

I’m thrilled (and a little terrified) to announce that my debut horror collection, River Sleepers and Other Stories, will be released on August 11, 2025.

🕯️ You can find it here on Amazon: https://a.co/d/eM9rmsV

This book is the culmination of years of writing, rewriting, and wondering if I should just toss the whole thing into the Mississippi. It’s a collection of four haunting stories, all set in St. Paul, Minnesota—where the past doesn’t stay buried, and the strange isn’t always easy to explain away.

Whether it’s a riverside camp with secrets, an eerie tenement mirror, a quiet man drawn into a ghostly diner, or a city inspector who finds something lurking in a condemned home—these stories explore what it means to vanish, to remember, and to be remembered.

If you love grounded horror with a psychological twist, urban folklore, and characters who feel real enough to lose—this one’s for you.

More updates (and probably a few nerves) as the release date gets closer. For now, go ahead and bookmark or pre-order River Sleepers and Other Stories, and thank you for supporting indie horror.

Runnels is a Minnesota-based horror author whose work blends the eerie with the everyday. Drawing from local folklore, urban legends, and their own unsettling experiences, Runnels crafts stories where forgotten places and quiet neighborhoods become sites of mystery and dread. Their background in urban forestry and current studies at Oregon State University lend an ecological edge to their fiction, rooted in a deep awareness of place and change. When not writing, they explore local trails with their dogs, always alert to what might be watching from the shadows.
